Winch Drum | Crane Drum
The crane drum is an industrial hose reel that transfers hydraulic fluids into the barrel while the booms move back and forth. It is also known as hydraulic hose drum in the market. Crane drums, which transmit the oil pumped from the hydraulic units on the crane to the pistons, operate automatically. While one of the hoses on the hydraulic drums performs the feeding process, the other performs the discharge process.
Hydraulic Hose Reel Types
Hose reels known as “Hydraulic hose drums“, “Winch Reels“, “Twin Hydraulic Hose Reel” or “Hydraulic Hose Reel”; They are named according to the number of fluid paths, including single-way hydraulic hose reel, two-way hydraulic hose reel and four-way hydraulic hose reel. For example, for 2-way winch drums, twin hoses are wrapped around the drum. Thus, one of the hoses is used for feeding and the other is used for discharge.
There are as many joints in hydraulic drums as there are hoses. For example, since there are two hoses for the “twin hydraulic drum”, there are two joints, one for each hose. The feed inlets of these joints are located on the edge of the flange. The transmission of fluids is carried out from each joint without mixing with each other.
What are the Usage Areas of Crane Drum?
Crane drums, also known as hydraulic hose drums, are generally used in booms on cranes, but are also used in crane legs. Hydraulic drums on the booms transmit or discharge the required fluid while the pistons move back and forth. The hydraulic hose reels on the legs help the passage of hydraulic oil onto the piston when the legs are opened or closed during the installation of the cranes.
The proboscis lengthens/shortens with the feet. Drums automatically wind the hoses. Spring springs inside the hydraulic hose drum perform the automatic retrieval of the hoses. For this reason, these drums are also referred to as “automatic retractable hose reels” or “retractable hose reels” in the market.
Crane Drum Retrieval Systems
Hydraulic hose reels are divided into 4 separate groups in terms of their retrieval feature: manual hydraulic hose reel, spring hydraulic hose reel, hydromotor hydraulic hose reel and electric motor hydraulic hose reel.
The retrieval feature for the manual hydraulic hose reel is manual. Collection of the hose is carried out by the operator. It is not suitable for automation-based systems.
The retrieval feature for the spring hydraulic hose reel is automatic. The collection of the hose is carried out by the mainspring. It is suitable for automation systems. Its disadvantage is that it is not possible to manufacture for all lengths and it is manufactured up to the upper limit of the mainsprings.
The retrieval feature for the electric motor or hydromotor “crane drum” is automatic. The retrieval process is done with the help of the engine. It is available for all sizes. Generally, the upper limit is determined according to the hose length.
